Welcome to the tai chi book store
Thanks for dropping by. My name is Paul Read - but you may find me online as the teapotmonk. I've been teaching for over 30 years in health and fitness, martial arts, languages, and Information Technology.
Drawing on these skills, my aim is to present Tai Chi in a clear and practical way, by combining paperbacks, eBooks, audiobooks with simple-to-learn online resources as a 21st century teaching method.

from 35 reviewsI found the books very interesting and useful to Learn about Tai Chi. I am not mother tongue English and I was afraid to not understand very well the explanations but I was wrong as the language, supported by pictures, makes the book a great tool to improve Tai Chi.
Thans Paul!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Not only is it a useful approach to Tai Chi, but it is beautifully illustrated and is very funny indeed.
I had been looking for someone like Paul Read for some time.
Really clear and comprehensive instruction delivered in different formats make this course easy to follow.
Fed up with treadmills and exercise bikes that only provided me with monotony. The tai chi workbook and guide has given me new hope on my recovery from both medical and mental illness. I needed something that combined the physical mental and spiritual qualities that can satisfy my mind to learn and do more. Goodbye to running and cycling on exercise equipment and only longing for it to be over. So let the journey commence.
Simple text nice layout with lots of extra resources accessed through QR codes. Looks really good and seems to understand the need to progress at my own speed.
I must admit to be very sceptical about this course. I have practised Tai Chi for a couple of years, both in person classes and online during lockdown, however haven't practised for a while. I saw the ad on Facebook and bought the book and I'm glad I did. I've enjoyed working through the lessons in bite size chunks and reading all the background to the moves. I tend to work from the book and then watch the videos before moving on to the next one.
For those new to Tai Chi or those like me with a bit of experience, this is a great course, easy to follow and really good value for money.
I’m a whole 1 year into learning Tai Chi with a club and this book is perfect for me right now - the artwork is beautiful, masses of information, things to ponder and try and links to follow. Love the light heartedness! Highly recommend.
The Beginner’s Guide is well written and (thankfully, in this age of carelessly published books) well edited. The design is beautiful, too. The most important quality, though, is its gentle manner of communicating how to approach and learn a wonderful art.
This is an excellent introduction to tai chi in its fullness, not just the form. Paul style is down to earth and supportive with a smattering of anarchic humour.
This unusual book is packed with ideas to consider as a newbie to Tai Chi along with some practical starter exercises and stories about the origin of the art. The beautiful design and its fun, interactive format make it a pleasure to use! And the bundled e-course not only expands the exercises in the book, but is a complete course in itself on ways to move towards better health.
The book, diagrams, instructions make it so easy to follow and keep interested in following Tai Chi. Just try and enjoy
It is a beautiful book. I like that I can keep it on my table top and refer to it as many times as I like. I like that it is spiral bound instead of only a .pdf. It makes it much easier follow along with. What a great complement to the online instruction. Thank you.
This was a gift from my partner and I fell in love with the images straight away, especially the watercolours and the pencil sketches that create a sense of that evasive element in tai chi - flow. I found myself filling out the worksheets, quizzes and todos, out of fun and pleasure, and using the QR codes to check out online examples and demos. Thank you Paul for creating this unique work book.
This book and--I suggest--some of the videos are as close as you're going to get to live one-on-one teaching. The approach is smart, creative and incredibly enjoyable. I've followed Paul's work for years and he keeps to the heart of the practice without any of the unnecessary, exotic coverings. Highly recommended.
I have been practicing and teaching Tai Chi for a couple of decades. I have read countless books on the subject but this one is by far the best. It brings humour and reality where others bring seriousness and deep rooted detail. For those who like history and prefer details then this is a great read and if you prefer the big picture then this is a great read too. In short I loved the book as it confirmed what I always believed in and that is that Tai Chi need not be entrenched in detail and Chinese manuscripts but opened up into the 21st century and enjoyed by all at whatever level. If I was to write a book on the subject I would have written this one..........Thank you Paul Read for an exceptional read. I am going to encourage my new set of students to buy a copy.
